You have written a controlling statement
and located
a body possible sources. So now it's time to begin
research by reading your sources. The only way to conduct research is to
read--sorry, but this is your only choice. In addition to thorough
reading, you need to take careful notes on what you read. You may not end
up using all of your notes, but be thorough from the outset, as going back can
be very frustrating. Here are some guidelines for research.
|
| In the past, you may have taken notes by hand,
writing each onto a note card that in turn corresponded to a source
card. In the age of technology, however, this seems a bit out of
date.
The system of Source Pages allows you to use
technology to save space, time, and headaches. One each source page, simply
create a numbered list of notes. It is essential that you keep track
of the note type, whether a particular note is a quotation, paraphrase, or
summary.
Also, typing your notes in this manner will allow
you to copy and paste information during the drafting step of the process. |
